Sons and daughters can spoil their mums with afternoon tea in the beautiful setting of Lydiard Park on Mother’s Day next month.

Following the huge success of its first Mothering Sunday Afternoon Tea offer last year, the Swindon Borough Council-owned park will be hosting another pampering event on Sunday, 22 March.

Guests are invited to enjoy an exquisite afternoon tea in the company of harpist Christine Kinder who will create a lovely, relaxing atmosphere with her music.

The afternoon tea includes prosecco or pressé on arrival, a variety of hand-cut sandwiches, a selection of pâtisserie delights, and an assortment of savoury canapés served with unlimited tea and coffee.

Visitors can also explore the elegant State Rooms of Lydiard House, where ornate plasterwork and original family furnishings are displayed alongside portraits and photographs of the St John family, who lived there from Elizabethan times.

A special exhibition is also on display in Lydiard House. ‘Look Up! The hidden architectural features of Lydiard House’ opens on Saturday, 21 March and is running throughout the year.

The Mother’s Day afternoon tea costs £21.95 per person and includes admission to the historic house and Walled Garden.

Afternoon Tea will be served from 2pm in the Luxborough Suite of The Lydiard House and Annexe. Visitors are advised to visit the elegant State Rooms of Lydiard House prior to this.

The event was fully booked last year and visitors are encouraged to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Bookings can be made by calling 01793 464644. Full payment over the phone is required to secure reservations.
