Anti-social behaviour, in its many guises, is something many residents bring up with me when I talk to them about the crime issues affecting their lives.
The extra £1M of funding secured by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund provides Wiltshire Police with the ability to effectively tackle and prevent ASB and serious violence by getting more officers out on the streets in addition to commissioning specialist services in support such as detached youth workers.
Extensive research has been done by Wiltshire Police to ensure we are placing our resources in the right place, and I will be holding our Chief Constable to account to ensure that her officers are doing everything they can to reduce crime in these hotspot locations and continue to maintain a visible presence.
My statutory responsibilities now increasingly include giving me as PCC, and my office the authority to convene partners such as local authorities, NHS, Youth Justice Services amongst others to tackle the underlying causes of crime, to strengthen the ability of Wiltshire Police to tackle these crimes and enforce the law, as well as better supporting victims.
Tackling crime requires a partnership approach, and you as residents can ensure your voice is heard by engaging with public consultations – such as my recent Use Your Voice survey which I launched to gather your views on policing priorities to feed into the rewriting of my Police and Crime Plan.
I want it to prioritise your concerns and ensure that the police service you receive reflects that feedback. My job, on your behalf as your PCC, is to hold Wiltshire Police to account to deliver your priorities. If it matters to you, it matters to me.
Wiltshire Police is no longer in ‘special measures’ and while not yet performing to the outstanding standards that the Chief Constable and I are determined we are on an improvement journey, and you as residents can have your say on how we can get there.
If you haven’t completed the survey, I would encourage anyone to still make your opinions known by emailing your views to pcc@wiltshire.police.uk
