From Highways Design:
As a representative for Swindon Borough Council, I write to inform you of the upcoming carriageway improvement works along New Road, Chiseldon. The site extents can be found attached to this email.
The main purpose of these works is to replace the deteriorating surface of the carriageway in order to increase its life span and to provide a safer and better running surface for all road users.
The works are programmed to commence on Monday 6th January 2025 for 15 working days between the hours of 07:30 and 18:00. However, this duration may overrun due to uncontrollable circumstances such as plant breakdowns, unfavourable weather conditions or the need to carry out additional repairs discovered during the construction works.
Letter drops will be carried out & notification signs will be erected in advance by the Contractor to advise the residents and public when the works will take place. Should delays occur due to unforeseen circumstances, the signs will be updated to show the revised dates and durations accordingly.
Due to the nature of the works and the local environment, the works will be carried out under 2 separate phases as per below:
- Phase 1: Preliminary civils works under Give & Take Traffic Management – Monday 6th January 2025 to Friday 17th January 2025 between the hours of 07:30 and 18:00
- Phase 2: Main resurfacing works under a temporary road closure – Monday 20th January 2025 to Friday 24th January 2025 between the hours of 07:30 and 18:00
The proposed diversion route has been attached for your information and dedicated signage will be provided as part of the Traffic Management plan.
The workforce will maintain pedestrian and vehicular access for the duration; however due to the nature of the works, some disruption is inevitable and vehicular access may need to be restricted at times. Traffic Marshals will be available on site at all times during the works, and will assist in dealing with any access problems or queries that you may have. It is essential that the areas remain un-trafficked until the new material has set, as early use could lead to premature failure.
If you have a blue badge and will be directly affected by the works please get in touch either via email or phone and let the Council know. A representative will then be in touch shortly to discuss access requirements/arrangements with you.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for your understanding whilst these works are underway to improve Swindon’s highway network.
Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me on the details provided. If you wish to discuss the works whilst they are in progress, please speak to a member of the workforce who will direct you to the appropriate person.
