Work is continuing on Akers Way and the road remains closed from St Mary’s Church and Cheney Manor Industrial Estate to enable the contractor to continue with phase 1 of the works.  The diversion route for phase one of the works will be via Cheney Manor Industrial Estate Road, Darby Close and Cheney Manor Road. There will be no access to Akers Way from the residential section of Cheney Manor Road including Harvey Grove, Brooklands Avenue and Manor Gardens.

The contractor is rebuilding the roadside gullies and setting them ready for the soon to be new road surface.  They are also working on repairing the deeper sections of the road where the concrete base has deteriorated, and this involves pouring new high quality concrete where the old concrete base was situated and leaving each section to cure.

The scheme will be split into a number of phases with specific traffic management arrangements for each phase of works. The next phase of works will close the first 200m section at the roundabout with Purton Road.  The diversion routes will be clearly signed in both directions for the duration of the works and advanced notification signs for the next phase will be in place two weeks prior to the start of the work.

During the works there may be some congestion, so we would urge motorists to allow extra time on their journeys through this area.
