National Firearms Surrender
A national firearms surrender is set to take place in England, Scotland and Wales between 13th and 26th November 2017.During the surrender members of the public are encouraged to take firearms into police stations and hand them over the front counter.
The two week surrender is a campaign to clear firearms from the streets – incidents involving guns have risen in a number of force areas, so a surrender period has been arranged to allow people holding weapons to give up their guns.
The surrender will avoid these weapons getting into the wrong hands, and provide members of the community with a safe place to dispose of any firearms they have, whether held lawfully or unlawfully. During the surrender period, those surrendering firearms will not face prosecution for illegal possession of the firearm at the point of surrender to lawful authority and they can remain anonymous. Police are committed to reduce the harm to our communities from firearms crime.
