Here’s some key things to know ahead of the UK General Election taking place on 4 July:
- If you’re not already registered to vote, the deadline to register is midnight on Tuesday, 18 June. You only need to register once – not for every election. You’ll need to register again if you’ve changed your name, address or nationality
- You can apply for a postal vote up until 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June. When you apply, you decide whether your postal vote is for a particular election, for a set period of time or for a maximum period of three years
- You can apply for a proxy vote up until 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June
- You must have an accepted form of photo ID in order to vote at a polling station. If you do not have this, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June
