Wiltshire Police is warning shoppers to be extra vigilant when out shopping in Swindon town centre.
The advice follows an increase in handbag thefts and so called purse dips (where thieves dip in to someone’s handbag).
One incident took place on Monday 28 November 2016 when a woman had her purse taken out of her shopping trolley while shopping in Poundworld
A CCTV image of two people officers would like to speak to in relation to this offence is in this link.
PC Paul Bezzant said: “People need to keep an eye on their possessions when out shopping, especially in crowded areas.
“Most of the recent victims appear to be the elderly and young women with pushchairs.
“Local officers are aware of these incidents and will be carrying out high visibility patrols throughout the festive period to prevent this.
“Please stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us via 101 or 999.”
