Preparatory work for Junction 16 improvements well underway
Work to build the contractor’s site compound off Hay Lane has continued with the installation of the main site offices. Vegetation clearance, trial holes, work entrances, and other works needed to get the junction ready for construction are underway, and the temporary 40mph speed limit has now been established on the local roads for the duration of the scheme. Preparatory work will continue throughout November.
The team are intending to close the M4 eastbound off-slip to install traffic management over the night of the 29th/30th November (from 8pm to 6am). Works to widen this section of the highway will then start.
Updates regarding forthcoming traffic management and further information regarding the programme will be communicated via this newsletter and our website: www.swindon.gov.uk/junction16 There will also be some additional work carried out over the next few nights by Highways England, which are unconnected to the Junction 16 improvement scheme.
